HE Information Systems (HEIS) requested a solution that would allow General Practitioners (GPS) to view patient records securely over NHSNet.

In order to meet the needs of our client Westhawk identified the existence of multiple NHS hospital legacy systems, which between them contained the data required for the new GP Admin Tool, or 'Clinical Viewer'. Westhawk integrated these existing databases to support a single user interface, which is simple to use and searchable online, saving GPs hours of unnecessary phone calls and paperwork.

HEIS also commissioned Westhawk to develop a solution that would enable their existing hospital booking functionality to communicate successfully with the new national NHS system NPfIT.

The aim of the national project is to enable GPs across the country to search a national database of hospital clinics, then choose and book remotely the required appointment for their patients.

Westhawk created a gateway device that acts as a Message Handling System (MHS), translating information requests between the NPfIT Spine and the HEIS legacy booking systems. Westhawk's MHS application was one of the first of its kind to be successfully authorised for use in the live NPfIT environment and is now operational in half dozen hospitals across the UK.

HEIS have recently become ASCRIBE, but Westhawk continue to support and maintain the MHS solution.
